Semenoff Stadium Roof Replacement

As demand for Semenoff Stadium continues to increase, we're pleased to see this important investment in the future of the venue now moving ahead.

Over the past year, the stadium has experienced significant growth in demand and usage across sport, events, community activities and business functions. This upgrade will help ensure the venue can continue to meet that demand while attracting even more opportunities for Northland in the future.

With the project addressing challenges with temperature control, acoustics and weather-tightness, it also creates significantly more functional and commercially attractive event and function spaces on Level 3.

Construction is scheduled to begin immediately following the Lions Fireworks Spectacular on 7 November. While there will be disruption during the construction period, Semenoff Stadium will remain operational, with all Level 2 lounges available for hire and the field continuing to host events throughout the project where possible.

The first outdoor event during the construction period will be the Pasifika Rugby Sevens on 21 November, with the playing field and terraces remaining fully operational. The grandstand seating area will be unavailable while works are underway. Construction is due to be complete before the 2027 winter sports season, which includes Northland playing host to the first ever British & Irish Lions Women’s game against a Black Ferns XV.

Semenoff Stadium is owned by Whangarei District Council and managed by Northland Events Centre (2021) Trust.
